The majority of checks are processed in an image environment.  These efficiencies in processing have changed how returns and adjustments are handled (compared to the paper exchange world).  For example, the warranty and related indemnification on an item may come from different sources based on the type of item and the exchange channel.  Understanding which rules or agreements apply is an important consideration in knowing what is required to resolve the item.  Is the returned or adjusted item the original physical item, a substitute check, an image of the original item, or sent through the ACH network as an RCK item?  Will the item be handled via a private exchange or clearing house network, the Federal Reserve, or through the ACH network?

This session will provide a comprehensive review of check exceptions surrounding imaged items that can result in a return or an adjustment.  Using various scenarios, you will learn the proper steps required for the timely reporting of the most-common imaged check exceptions.
